Simone Fabbi graduated in Geology at Sapienza University of Rome in 2008, with a Master Thesis on geological mapping of a portion of the Northern Apennines. Between 2008 and 2012 he undertook a Ph.D. in Earth Sciences at Sapienza University of Rome, with a Thesis on the Miocene pre-orogenic tectonics and tectonic-driven sedimentation in the Central Apennines. Subsequently he took a post-doctoral position at the Department of Earth Sciences of Sapienza University of Rome, working on the Jurassic to Miocene tectono-sedimentary evolution of the Longobucco Basin in Sila Greca (northern Calabria). Since 2017 he is involved in the production of the official Geological Map of Italy 1:50000 (CARG Project), having been charged to carry out the geological mapping of a portion of the sheet 337 "Norcia" when he was at National Council of Research with a postdoctoral position. From 2020 to 2022 he worked as a Researcher at the Geological Survey of Italy (ISPRA), again within the CARG Project, carrying out the geological mapping of a portion of the sheet 377 "Trasacco" and of the sheet 313 "Camerino". In 2018 he was visiting researcher at the Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology-Chinese Academy of Sciences, and from 2018 to 2021 he was research collaborator of Prof. Jingeng Sha, for projects focused on the biostratigraphy and paleobiogeography of rudist bivalves, and their application to the stratigraphy of the Aksai Chin region. Currently he is a Researcher at the Earth Sciences Department of Sapienza University of Rome and is the geological survey Director of the sheet 363 "Civitavecchia" of the Geological Map of Italy 1:50000.

His interests and expertise mainly concern field geology devoted to the geological mapping and facies and sedimentological analyses of stratigraphic successions. His research mostly focuses on the detailed geological survey performed with classical tools, also integrating sedimentological and biostratigraphical data to reconstruct the evolution of complex tectonic settings.
