Angelo Cipriani got the Master Degree in "Exploration Geology" in 2013 and the Ph.D. in "Earth Sciences" in 2017 at the Department of Earth Sciences of "La Sapienza" University of Rome. During the Academic education, he performed a detailed geological mapping of the Narni-Amelia Ridge (Central Apennines) in order to update the Meso-Cenozoic stratigraphy, to reconstruct the Mesozoic paleotectonics and paleogeography, and to describe the role played by the pre-orogenic inheritances on the development of compressive thrusts and post-orogenic normal faults. During the post-doctoral activity, he applied the same methodologies to key-areas of the Sibillini Mts. Field-work was also conducted on the Southern Alps to analyse the stratigraphic-structural evidence for Early Cretaceous syn-sedimentary tectonics, previously described for Central Italy. Since 2020, he works as Researcher at the Geological Survey of Italy (ISPRA) for the National geological mapping project (CARG Project at 1:50,000 scale).
His field-based expertise and research interest concerns the geological mapping, the carbonate sedimentology of pelagic and shallow-water environments, Meso-Cenozoic stratigraphy of Tethyan realm, the interaction between syn-depositional tectonics and sedimentation, the paleotectonic reconstruction of rifted basins, carbonate platform-basin settings, the analysis of structurally complex areas.
Angelo Cipriani awarded the "Emilio Cortese" (2016) and "Secondo Franchi" (2020) Italian Geological Society awards, and the "David Giuntini" award (Tuscany Geologist Foundation, 2017) for the best Ph.D. thesis. He published about 20 papers and geological maps in international scientific journals
